This story is difficult to comment on without spoiling it. There's a warning at the end of the story and if you read it, it will spoil some of the effect. OTOH, if you need warnings read it, it's absolutely up to you.

A wonderful example how to give informations on a story without turning it into an info dump. It's full of details that - if read and interpreted carefully - reveals the whole background slowly until you get the whole creepy, heartwrenching picture.

Wonderfully written, great characterization, a story that's not simply for consuming but requires a little thinking on the reader's side and leaves you - perhaps - a little sniffing and - for sure - loving the guys for what they are.

There's a later written sequel called "Simon and the Rain", also at the 852 archive, but the original can stand alone perfectly as well.

This story defies definition. It is beautiful and heartbreaking and sweet, all at the same time. I'd consider it a G-rated slash story. Legion's a longtime Sentinel writer who has been writing more lately and this is her newest. But please read Legion's warning at the beginning of the story.
