Reactions/Reviews

  • "Oh look, and you have made me cry (er, again) on a Monday morning. I love this final version -- your choice of color-switching to emphasize the difference between scenes (grayscale or full-color) is inspired and adds a serious punch to the emotional effect. The scene with the family (and portrait of) and fire is just-- oh, OW. And it's perfect. It encapsulates everything, beautifully so. And I think you probably know how I feel about the end, as I think I went on about that in beta version. But I can repeat if you want! In conclusion, EEE and YAY and AUGH. *hugs them ALL, and you too*"[1]
  • "Overall impression:. Claire is one of my least liked characters- least she WAS until I saw her in this fan video. Well put together and thought out, it shows Claire in her battles and really makes her more appealing. The black and white cuts and contrast transitions are well timed and this is really an excellent character study.
also an apology to the vidder- I actually reviewed this a week or so ago? and forgot to post it. Im sorry :(
Titles: very simple goldish text on a black screen at the end. Clean and simple.
Music choice: how can you go wrong with Remy Zero? The song and lyrics are a very good choice for Claire, and I was particularly fond of the effects done around the chorus, so that added to the power of the song itself.
Narration, Tone and Movement: the video shows the trials of Claire, and parts of her past. The video moves very smoothly for the most part from scene to scene, and times well with the tempo of the song. The way to clips are pieced together you can feel the climax of the music with how the clips move together
Cuts, Transitions, Effects & Coloring:. The cuts and transitions are clean, moving from one scene to another very seamlessly. The flashbacks to Claire’s life are done in a very nice and smoothly put together black and white. The vidder also contrasted parts of it, to emphasis certain moments, all these are put together without being “Too much” –though the vid is effect heavy it’s not overbearing, they all feed into the video well and help to tell the story
Specific vid & music notes:
Man this is always a tough section for me. This video has so many moments where the transitions and story are note worthy I would be able to fill pages. The black and white flashbacks through the whole video are so well placed. The vidder manages to carry the video through the long intro music with flashes of scenes, both in color and black and white that keeps you from getting bored before the lyrics start up.
My favorite would probably be at 00:25 a very nicely timed clip, from color to flashes of black and white before going color again of Claire being pushes to sit again by her parents to the lyrics of “remember how they tried to hold you down” –just the way its done was very appealing to me.
Final notes: I really enjoyed watching this video, I found it well composed, thought out and put together, and watching it has made me see the character it was based around in a new light, so can’t complain about that."[2]
