merlinxarthur is the community dedicated to the Merlin/Arthur slash pairing and the biggest Merlin community on Livejournal.
The name of the merlinxarthur community (writing the pairing as MerlinxArthur) shows that the fandom is partially influenced by yaoi fandom traditions, however, the fannish infrastructure is strongly influenced by SGA fandom veterans. A few weeks after its creation, merlinxarthur got additional mods and one of them introduced the tagging system[1] that was developed and refined for mckay_sheppard[2], the main John/Rodney slash community in SGA fandom. This tagging system later spread to other Merlin communities such as the merlin_vids community.
In those early weeks and months in 2008 the Merlin/Arthur slash fandom grew incredibly fast. It drew heavily from the established slash fandoms, especially SGA. By the end of November merlinxarthur had already more than a thousand members. Even more people joined after series 1 had finished and the time between winter 2008 and summer 2009 was incredibly active with a lot of fannish creative output, mostly in fic, vids and art.
A year after it was founded merlinxathur had almost 3,800 members (still twice as much as Merlin TV and thrice as much as Merlinslash at that time), more than 5,200 entries and almost 35,000 comments.[3] In August 2010 there were more than 5700 members, more than 8800 entries and more than 56,000 comments.[4]
