Excerpts

"What about Wintershock as a pairing appeals to you? Wintershock appeals to me because, of all the Darcy pairings, it feels like the one that - oddly enough - needs the least explaining. With a lot of the pairings I need to sort of figure out an angle to approach them from, either a piece of character development or some other plot device to aid the romance, but not so for Bucky/Darcy. To me, Darcy/Bucky works in any context: I find them easy to write because their personalities just jive off each other. It’s like writing Tony Stark being snarky - it comes naturally."

"How did you first encounter it? The first time I saw the ship and took it seriously was in Morning_Glory’s “Words I Can’t Say” which I truly cannot recommend highly enough. It was emotional and intense, sexy and well-developed, and it completely sold me on the pairing."

"Do you have any specific Wintershock headcanons that you’ve written into your fics or seen on Tumblr/in someone else’s fic? I find that personal agency comes up a lot with the two of them. I can’t see a post-Hydra Bucky ever being comfortable with taking away someone else’s agency in any capacity - not once he’s in his right mind. So, with that in mind, I tend to write Bucky as letting Darcy take the lead because he’s aware of the inherent power imbalances between them (mostly with regards to physical strength, training, etc.) and wouldn’t ever want to make her feel pushed or crowded. And yes, considering I am currently writing an accidental/forced bond story with the two of them, I realize how odd it sounds that “agency” is probably my one solid Darcy/Bucky headcanon, but even in that fic it shows up - and will more, in the future."

"Of the stories that you’ve written concerning them, which one is your favorite and why? Part of me wants to say “to find the happiness I seek” because, in many respects, I do consider it my best writing to date. HOWEVER, I love “lend a hand (my heart’s full of love)” because it is unrepentant snark and fluff from start to finish, and it ends with Darcy and Bucky snarking their way off into the sunset, or a hotdog stand in Times Square, whatever. I really love that one because it’s short, sweet, simple, and sassy."

"What Wintershock fic by someone else would you recommend to others to read? What about this fic appeals to you? Aside from the Morning_Glory one, I will recommend one Darcy/Bucky I have been following avidly from day one: “Sinners & Saints” by AlexisDanaan. It’s still in progress but it is amazing. There’s a TON of really good Darcy/Bucky fic out there that I have loved, but those two spring to mind as the first one that got me into the pairing and a fic I have been mildly obsessed with since it began."
