Lori McDonald was a fanfic writer for X-Men comics and Gatchaman. She also ran a popular archive, Lori's X-Men Archive. She is the author of "The Gestalt Arc", "Experiment #713", "Music in the Key of X," and various standalone stories for Subreality Cafe. She has also won several CBFFAs and inducted into the Writer's Hall of Fame in 1998. Lori was one of the "first generation" of comic fanficcers who joined Alt.comic.fan-fiction in the wake of the fall of Rec.arts.comics.marvel.xbooks. She was especially known as a Remy LeBeau/Rogue shipper and Gambit fangirl, although the wrote many other characters.

Lori is "credited" with providing Marvel with Remy LeBeau's middle name of Etienne, although that is not completely proven. It also may have been RubyLis who used it first[1][2].

In March 1999, Lori announced she would no longer update the archive[3], although she would continue hosting it so that it would still be available; Ro also stepped in as new moderator following the announcement. In the wake of this news, Maelstrom posted the following feedback:

I don't know how I first found Lori McDonald's X-Men Fanfiction Archive on the net, but I do know that it was probably the first real archive I'd ever been to. Nothing else compared to it. And ever since that day, I'd always kept it in my bookmarks. It introduced me to a whole list of fanfic, and most of all, it gave me someplace to go to...

...Not only has Lori been a wonderful archivist, she's an even more wonderful writer. Her works are usually serious and contain killer lines, really dragging you deep into its psychological pit, but then she'd surprise you with terrific, teasing pieces of humor like "The More The Merrier" (co-written with Melissa Chambers). She's a great writer, and it is sad to see her go.

She announced that she would no longer be maintaining her archive. I personally feel a very sorry loss for many people, including myself, but I can understand why she wants to move on. I'd even like to encourage her to, and to let her know that we support her every single bit. Lots of luck, Lori.[4]

Reviews

IMHO #2 - Where Two Become One - a retrospective of Lori's fanfic work.

Notable Works

The Gestalt Arc - what if, when faced with the end of the world, Rogue kissing Gambit had a completely different impact?

Experiment #713 - follows the path of a very different Gambit, who is one of Mr. Sinister's experiments and escapes.

Music in the Key of X - a series of stand-alone stories of individual X-Men and their personal soundtracks.

"Getting Away With It" - a Common People Warehouse story, a young mutant with a very simple, very creative power, looks for amusement.

"Subreality Cafe: Writer's Block" - A familiar Writer takes a break from her book to seek inspiration from some old Fictive friends.

"Split Second Decision" - When an X-Man is killed on a mission, Cyclops must deal with the guilt.
