Living Year to Year is a slash Quantum Leap anthology.

There are seven issues.

It is a shared universe created by Doreen Tracy and Caitlin Stewart.

These zines required an age statement.

a chronological list of Sam/Al zines, printed in The Handlink #1, the first in May 1992, up to June 1995. (Note: the dates for "Living Year to Year" on this list differ from the dates on the some of actual zines.)

Regarding Content

From The Handlink #3:

Note: none of the Quantum Fire Press zines glorify physical or sexual violence. This does not necessarily mean there will never be any graphic situations, merely that they’ll be handled in as mature and responsible manner as possible. I'm against censorship, but I believe in letting people know what they're getting into. "Last Measure of Devotion" contains one brief scene that some have classified as rape — while others see as consensual.

Living Year To Year [is a ] series of novels taking place in the same "universe," by Doreen Tracy and Caitlin Stewart. #4 also includes work by K.C. Wise. Currently up to #5, which I have been told is less violent than previous issues.

Issue 1

Living Year to Year 1 was published in 1992 and contains 78 pages. It contains no interior illustration.

Summary from Media Monitor (date unknown): "Faced with the dismantling of Project Quantum Leap, Al orders a final, dangerous attempt to bring Sam home. He is successful, but Sam is seriously injured, and may have suffered a stroke in the process. Al must help Sam return to the present, dodge reporters, and the two must come to the grips with the attraction they feel for each each other."

Summary from a distributor, Agent With Style: "This novella, by Doreen Tracy, begins the Living Year to Year saga and will immediately draw you into the world of Sam Beckett's post-leap experiences with his newest pet project, EarthSafe, which his even newer lover, Al Calavicci, helps him achieve--and the shadowy figures who want to take it for their own."

From the author's introduction:

This story started somewhere between "Shock Theater" aired and "Leap Back". This novel is slash, which was not the original intention. Surprise! This is part one of a continuing saga. It's becoming the all-consuming story of my life and I and my co-writer are enjoying every second of it.

I want to thank Caitlin, Mysti, Bingo, and Ruth K., who gave me the original inspiration for this type of work years ago. Bless 'em, one and all for putting up with reading chapter after chapter on the phone, correcting, or adding to the story.

All I can ask is for comments. And enjoy.

Issue 2

cover of issue #2

Living Year to Year 2 was published in 1993 and contains 250 pages. It contains no interior illustration.

Summary from a distributor, Agent With Style: "In the second novel of the Living Year to Year saga, authors Doreen Tracy and Caitlin Stewart spin a tale of love, desperation, deceit and trust that can only be earned through harrowing trials of fire. Sam and Al have gone through such trials, and emerged out the other side, bloody but unbowed, trusting and loving each other even when the world around them has gone mad."

From Bill Hupe's catalog: "As Sam and Al begin to deal with their new relationship, so must the rest of the Beckett clan. And to further complicate the issue, there are those nasty memory gaps and a body not quite up to specs. As well as dealing with the aftermath of the dissolution of The Project and a reporter that won't leave their relationship alone..."

Author's introduction:

The vast majoiryt [sic] of this book you hold in your hands was written during and just after Year Four Quantum Leap. If you press your ear carefully to the pages you might hear the crack of a bat, an overhead fan softly turning -- or "April Love" played on a small radio in a navy ensign's room.

Yes, Greg will figure prominently -- but later.

My major, major thanks and love to my best friend and writing partner (and co-writer of Living Year to Year #3) Caitlin Stewart. The names have ben [sic] changed to protect the innocent.

Nothing is written in stone -- time is fluid.

Issue 3

Living Year to Year 3 was published in 1993 or before and contains 350 pages.

From Bill Hupe's catalog: "Six stories further exploring Sam and Al's relationship. Contains explicit sexual situations between Sam and Al, and lots and lots of drama, pathose (sic), and smarm."

From Bill Hupe's catalog: "Over 350 pgs of Quantum Leap slash offering six stories by Doreen Tracy and Caitlin Steward [sic]. Further exploring the Living Year universe and Sam & Al's relationship. Contains explicit sexual situations between Sam & Al. And lots and lots of drama, pathos, angst, and smarm.
