Karen's Deepwater was a resource and fan site for the television show Deepwater Black, which aired in the U.S. as Mission Genesis. It also housed a small amount of fanfiction.

It is being documented here as part of the OTW's GeoCities Rescue Project.

Site Description

The site was arranged on ten 'decks', emulating the layout of the show's spaceship (more or less; Deepwater didn't actually have ten decks). A great deal of thought went into the layout, as is evident in the additional, non-deck associated, "About the Decks" explanation page. This described the use of each deck on the show and how they related to their use on the site, although the owner did acknowledge that the design was essentially incomprehensible to anyone not intimately familar with the show already.[1]

Deck 1: The Cryo Chamber
Airing information and a brief overview of the show and its backstory.

Deck 2: The Bio Room
Biographies on the cast and crew.

Deck 3: The Command Deck
Site map.

Deck 4: The Habitat
Site and show updates & miscellaneous, including interview transcripts, articles and reviews.

Deck 5: Computer Terminal
Wav files including the show theme, brief bits of dialogue and interview extracts; video of the show's opening; images including official photos and episode captures; DWb desktop icons; magazine scans and a couple of games (Intel Pentium II processor recommended!).

Also on this deck were fourteen works of fanfiction by MissionGirl, Brandon McKown, Michelle Vincenti, Sarah Lubin, Chiona, Linda Chapple, Megan Reilly and Jacynthe Demorae. This comprised much of the DWb fic on the internet.

Deck 6: The Gene Bank
Described as "a vault of the diverse opinions of the show," but actually just a couple of links to message boards and a mailing list.

Deck 7: Personal Chambers
Character profiles.

Deck 8: Mission Records
Brief episode descriptions taken from the offical site.

Deck 9: Weapons & Shields
"The weapons--getting the show renewed (thereby defending it). The shields--to protect me from legal trouble (ie. the Disclaimer!)."

Deck 10: Shuttle Bay
Links page.

The site was also the home of a Save Our Show effort, encouraging fans to write letters to the show's creators and producers. A list of all campaign supporters was held on the site. As of January 16th, 1998, 13:15 PST, there were 42 people on the list.[2]

The campaign was unsuccessful.
