Fandom

One of the first ships that came out of the release of the First Look/Trailer (the others being Kara/Alex and Kara/Jimmy), the ship has stayed fairly common throughout the first half of the 1st season. Most of the fandom behind the pairing appears on Tumblr and YouTube, where fanworks are produced more frequently compared to FanFiction.net and Archive of Our Own. Fanfiction is fairly rare for the pairing, only 22 works is listed at AO3 and 11 works at FFN as of November 11, 2016.

Many OT3 the pairing with James Olsen.

Criticism

Winn is often criticized for how he dealt with Kara's secret identity in the first episode[2] and his possibility of becoming Toyman (although it was later canonized that his father is actually Toyman) - a villain. He was also criticized for how he dealt with his feelings with Kara and how he took Kara's rejection. The reveal of his feelings to Kara was also criticized because he kissed her, which many thought was creepy or him trying to take advantage of the situation and manipulate Kara into returning his feelings[3]. Despite the fact that he immediately apologized and left, others still don't care about his character or care for the pairing. Others however do feel for him and can understand his actions and words/feelings - creating a Winn Schott Defense Squad[4] - and continue to ship the two together.
