Jonathan Kent is a main character on the television show Smallville based on the character from the comics with the same name.
Canon Overview
He is an organic farmer whose family had lived in the town of Smallville for a long time. He married Martha Clark, a city girl from Metropolis, and they adopted a son Clark, actually an alien from the planet Krypton. He died in season 5 of the show.
Fannish Engagement with the Character
Jonathan Kent is often referred to as Bo Kent in fannish discussions because John Schneider, the actor who played Jonathan Kent, is well known for his role of Bo Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard.
Fans frequently refer to Jonathan's platitudes, such as "those cows won't feed themselves," in ways that range from lovingly mocking to hatefully mocking. His character was sometimes seen as one note, and Jonathan tends to be less popular in fanworks than the other parental-generation characters.
