IkariShipping is the name for the romantic pairing of Dawn and Paul in the Pokémon anime. It has become a popular ship despite the lack of a significant canonical relationship.

Canon Interaction

Because pairings in the Pokémon anime very rarely become canonical, fans often debate about possible romances occurring off-screen or that may occur in the future. IkariShippers have collected "evidence" from the various seasons of the anime as well as the official movies to support their pairing. For a complete list of "evidence," see Shipping:IkariShipping at Bulbapedia.

Terminology

The name IkariShipping comes from the name of the main character of the popular anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, Shinji Ikari, because the characters' Japanese names, Shinji and Hikari, combine to form it.

Alternatively, the name ShinHika is used to refer to the pairing, formed using the standard Japanese naming method of combining parts from each characters name, starting with the dominant character. PADL, which stands for "Paul And Dawn Love," and Pawn, a portmanteau of the English names, are also sometimes used.[1]
