Steve Vander Ark attempted to publish a print version of the Harry Potter Lexicon over the objections of J. K. Rowling and Warner Brothers, and all hell broke loose.

There was:

• wanky behavior on the part of the publishing company, RDR Books
• accusations that JKR was a greedy whore
• alarm over the possible effect the lawsuit could have on other fansites
• arguments over what the effects were
• debates over the ethics and legality of making money from fanworks

All going on for months.
