I hate Gathering stories. Intensely, passionately, beyond all reason I hate them. Won't read them if it can possibly be avoided. Why? By definition, in a Gathering story just about everybody dies. Call me a sap, but unless it's done by Shakespeare, I don't want to read a story in which everybody dies at the end.

Having said that: Gather Thy Cares is the one, the only, the single Gathering story I have ever read that I have liked. And I didn't just like it, as the Evil Duncan MacLeod might say; I loved it.

In fact, I loved it so much that I have dubbed it the Ryan St. Alexander Official End of Highlander. No matter what TPTB decide to do with their series or their movies or whathaveyou, Gather Thy Cares is, for me, the way it all goes down at the end when There Can Be Only One.

This is a crossover story, the extra fandom being Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. So as you read this, be prepared to meet some of her finest: Lestat, Louis, Khayman, and perhaps a few others. The two universes are woven together seamlessly and beautifully, and in a way that will surprise even the most jaded of fanfic readers.

The descriptions are breathtaking. The emotions are real and deep and moving. The drama will capture your attention and the characterizations are absolutely stunning. The sex scenes are incredibly moving and...er...distracting; I wouldn't advise reading this one at work!

A caveat: Gather Thy Cares will do more for you if you've read Deadly Allies by T. Isilwath first.
