Free Comic Book Day is a day in which comic book shops around the world provide free comic books to anyone who comes into their shops. Held on the first Saturday of May each year, the first Free Comic Book Day was held in 2002. The event is intended to engage the comic book fandom and also celebrate independent comic book specialty shops that exist in communities around the world.
Participation
Participation and terms are up to each individual comic book shop. The event organizers provide a store locator on their website to assist fans in finding participating shops in their area. The free comic books available come from a short list and availability can vary depending on shop stock and the number of customers opting to participate.
