The FoSiLs are a faction of Forever Knight fandom comprising fans who declare an affiliation with Sydney, Natalie Lambert’s cat. The name is an acronym for Friends of Sidney Lambert.[1]
History of the Faction
The first Forever Knight factions focused on the principal characters. However, as the number of such factions grew, one was formed by fans of Natalie's cat. For the most part, it was a way for them to play a double role during a Forever Knight Wars, with their pets (usually cats) written into the story as sentient individuals, acting independently as members of their own faction. Often, the author professes a completely different affiliation, thus writing two separate sets of posts (as themselves and as their pet), each with its own story arc.
The FoSiLs first participated in War Two, and did so regularly thereafter at least until War Five, where Sydney is among the characters listed.[2]
As the fandom increased in size in the late 1990s, restrictions were increasingly placed on players. As the FoSiLs' role in War became concomitantly difficult, interest in the affiliation faded. It nevertheless continues to appear on most lists of faction names.

There used to be a faction website, Fans of Sidney Lambert (http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/8405/); but it disappeared so long ago that the Internet Archive has no more record of it than a poor copy of the front page.
Faction Symbol
When the first set of ForKni-L Affiliation Pins was constructed by Susan M. Garrett and Calliope Monsoon to help Forever Knight fans find each other at Dead of Winter Con (January 1995), they were decorated with symbols for the factions.[3] For the FoSiLs, this consists of a stock grayscale GIF that shows the frontal view of a short-haired cat with a ball of wool between its paws.
Faction Icon
In 2012, Greer Watson created an icon for the FoSiLs as part of her project to create a set of icons for all the Forever Knight factions. The design overlays a screen capture of Natalie holding Sydney on a background photograph of a Persian-style carpet.[4]

- ^ The scriptwriter apparently named the cat after the actor, Sydney Greenstreet. However, at the time, this information was not known to most fans, who tend to write the name as "Sidney", hence the spelling of the faction name.
