Summary

"Kirk and Spock go camping together and find love after Spock is almost hurt in a fall. It started out as just another shore leave, but the deeper into the redwood Big Basin Reserve the campers hiked, the greater the changes when they emerged."

Reactions and Reviews

Kirk and Spock use some shore leave time on Earth to go on a camping trip. A bit heavy on the romance, but very sweet.[1]

Nah. I'm missing something. To say that after their first lovemaking, with the exception of "How do you feel, Jim?", they would go on as if nothing special had happened doesn't feel okay at all. What's even more weird is that even before Spock asked Jim that question, they talk about what they are going to do "hike-wise. I loved that scene in the tent when they come together without too much awkwardness and shyness. And though the vivid description of their surroundings was beautifully done, at some point it completely overshadowed Kirk and Spock, making that the focal point and not what's going on between our two protagonists. [2]

Wow! This is a master story-teller! Beautiful groundwork—the forest (my own favorite place) and the solitude that speaks to you on a level with your soul. And then the love-making. No purple prose, no poetic license, no graphic details (at least not overly so). But boy, does this feel RIGHT....

Such a gripping excursion. Into the wilds of nature, into the unknown of each others arms, into the deep untouched caverns of the mind. More. I want more. It is nothing short of remarkable the talent with which we K/S believers are blessed.

In some way I can’t define, Greywolf’s style is different—factual, not fanciful. But there is definitely style and most assuredly ability to draw the reader close and hold fast! [3]

the classic hurt/comfort fic. a wonderfully satisfying read, sort of like a very good chocolate-chip cookie. [4]
