Little Women by Louisa May Alcott was published in 1868.[1] Chapter 10 gives an account of a fan club and fanzine devoted to Charles Dickens' Pickwick Papers.

Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens was published in 19 monthly installments between March 1836 and October 1837. Little Women was published in 1868 but is set in New England during the American Civil War (1860-1865) - about 25 years after the publication of Pickwick Papers.

Chapter 10 of Little Women describes the Pickwick Club set up by the four March sisters who are the protagonists of Little Women. They publish their own version of Pickwick Papers including short fiction and in jokes. Louisa M. Alcott includes one brief fanzine verbatim and follows it with this aside "I beg leave to assure my readers (this) is a bona fide copy of one written by bona fide girls once upon a time".
