Fan Works Inc. (FanWorks.org) was a multifandom archive.

According to its Facebook page, it was founded on February 5, 1998. [1]

It hosted fanworks, a dictionary of fannish terms, much information about "official fan fic policies" of many authors and other sources.

The fan fiction policies can be accessed at: FanWorks.org :: Fan Works Inc. - Help & Tools Index, Archived version, though many are offline.

Laura Hale was "a facilitator, content provider, policy advisor" from June 2004 to January 2006. [2]

"One of the older Fan Works (Fiction, art, etc... etc..) communities on the web.

Founded in 1998 as a static archive over on Geocities, we moved around to several different servers till at last we bought our own and became the user-driven version we were till our closing in October 2014." [3]

Struggling

A May 2013 post:

I am in a quandary these days.... this site has been around for a long, long time, but, it basically runs on its own anymore, as I've gotten older, I spend less and less time thinking about writing fan fiction or maintaining the back end of this server anymore.

The code is horribly antiquated, as is the design and I don't have the energy or motivation to throw at it anymore.

The usage has dropped off rather drastically, which is compelling me towards a complete closure of the server for good. [4]

Closed Its Doors

From a post in 2014:

Fan Works Inc. has closed its doors after fifteen plus years of fan fiction, fan art, and all the trimmings :(. User-ship of this site has dropped to non-existent, and the software back end isn't keeping up with today's modern trends, and so this old dinosaur has finally decided to call it quits.

If you're interested in trying to revitalize the old vision, and possibly contribute to ideas for a reimagining of the old site, visit our Facebook Page, and post. We'll need several hundred artists/writers interest if there's going to be any chance of a restart.

Till then, Thanks for Visiting! And thanks for all the memories :).

Yours Truly,

Joseph C. McKenzie
