Every Day in Every Way is a Stargate Atlantis John/Rodney story by velocitygrass. It was written for the SGA Big Bang Challenge 2007. mamoru22 made a fic trailer for the story and Crysothemis created an illustration (pencil drawing).

Summary: "I'm here to propose an arrangement. Between us. I assume you remember our talk from earlier today and how... challenging dating can be on Atlantis. And since we've established that you're attracted to me, I think it would be mutually beneficial for us to have sex."

Reactions and Reviews

Now this is what I'm talking about. John and Rodney are captured, tied together, and accidentally have sex (*sigh* Sometimes I really do love SGA fic). They quickly establish that while John is flexible, Rodney is straight, and Rodney proceeds to have a gay freakout that rates somewhat lower on the McKay freakout scale than Rodney's 'I have a splinter in my finger' freakout. Then it occurs to Rodney that this is the perfect opportunity for convenient, no-strings sex and even straight guys can do hand-jobs, right?

I think you can guess what happens next.

After a dozen SGA stories so painfully depressing that I actually had to force myself to finish them, this bit of fluff was very, very welcome. It's not literature level writing (actually, the style kind of reminded me of romance novel writing, which enhanced the Harlequin feel), but Rodney's snarky and the plot is fun and you'll walk away from this fic feeling refreshed and happy. If that's not a reason to read fanfic, I don't know what is. Viva la Harlequin![1]

The story starts as a “friends with benefits” arrangement between two lonely men who are tired of being lonely. It takes a long time for both of them to see that they are in a real relationship together. It’s an early SGA Big Bang story. [2]

I love this story in a way that borders on unhealthy fixation. I'd kiss it if I could. I'm pretty sure I have when it's on my ereader.[3]

This is a long, smoking hot, angsty look at deepening intimacy between two people who are hopeless at communicating outside of touch. A re-reading favourite.[4]

After some inadvertent frottage while being held hostage tied together, John and Rodney begin a mutually agreeable arrangement; of course, it develops that each of them wants more but thinks the other doesn't. Mostly, what I remember is a lot of sex scenes tied together into a story that could have been told in far fewer words. Which isn't to say it wasn't enjoyable.[5]

pining!John/oblivious!Rodney, the one where every sex scene (and there are a bunch) is meaningful both emotionally and to the plot. A classic "it starts with sex" story where it of course becomes more. Nice unfolding and progression into a full-on relationship.[6]

Velocity takes a fairly well known plot device - Rodney proposes a no-strings-attached sexual arrangement - and spins it into something unique and beautiful in a very believable way. A misunderstanding off-world lets us in on John's secret from the get-go and we get to watch as Rodney forms some conclusions about himself and slowly, unconsciously turns their arrangement into something else. The sex scenes are hot and gorgeously constructed, but it's the emotional development that'll keep you glued to the story. Your heart will ache for pining!John trying so hard to play things the way he thinks Rodney wants them. It takes them fully half the fic to kiss, but in that moment your heart will melt, even if it does take the boys quite a bit longer to figure out what the kiss was trying to tell them. A must read for anyone who loves a slow build to the realization of what they really mean to each other.[7]
