Editorial

The Alexanders write in preface to Enoch Arden:

Our author Julie Harrington makes her home in the Chicago suburbs. We were first introduced to her by fellow editor and writer, Shannon Mowatt (X-istence) of Lone Gunmen Press, California. Shan was kind enough to send this talented lady our way. Ever since then, Julie has amazed us with her seemingly endless source of imaginative ideas.

This author is an editor's dream. Not only is she very thorough in her research and fact-finding, but she takes editing with an open mind and sincere desire to have her fiction be the very best it possibly can. She possesses a refreshing eagerness and an unquestionable flair for story telling. Best of all, she captures the often unusual humor that is the trademark of the series we've all come to know and love.

Enoch Arden is a good example of her research abilities. It is a carefully plotted flight down Supranormal Road, looking over your shoulder the whole time; an eerie look at someone who is slightly more than human. Enoch is a bit like Tooms or Clyde Bruchman; a person with a little...more...than most of us have, be it unusual physical needs via appetite or heightened psi abilities. Enoch has that 'little more'; just enough to make him a deadly threat to anyone he encounters; truly a villain worthy of a nomination to the X-Files Hall of Infamy.

Bernice Talbot is a person with a score to settle, and that score will take her wherever it may. In this case, it takes her from her home in England to Washington, DC, and right into the middle of an X-File. Here Julie gives us the strong characterization of a professional woman trapped in a deadly pas d'deux, trading off the role of predator and prey with the elusive Arden.

Mulder and Scully, assigned to the murders due to their unusual nature, find themselves pulled into that dance. Scully's denial gland gets a heavy workout as Julie unfolds her tale for the reader.

So now it's time for you to turn the page and walk through the door marked 'X' into a darker place. Enjoy this sojourn into the X-Files. We sure did.
