Emma Grant is a well known slasher in the Harry Potter fandom. She has written fanfiction in TPM, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter, HP RPS, and Star Trek (2009) fandoms. She began writing mainly in Sherlock (TV series) fandom in early 2012, Check Please! in 2015, and Good Omens in 2019.

History

Emma became active in TPM in 2002, where she primarily wrote Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan slash fic. She then cowrote the Queer as Jedi series with Helens78, Ms Swift, Jedi Rita, and Elocin Oco. The series was a semi-parody of Queer as Folk set in the Star Wars prequels universe. Queer as Jedi was posted in two "seasons" between December 2002 and June 2004, and consisted of 42 episodes in all.

In 2004 she became active in the Harry Potter fandom and wrote primarily Harry/Draco slash fic, where she is currently still active. She considers the pairing her OTP.[1] She helped start Slashcast, a Harry Potter-themed slash podcast, in the spring of 2006. The podcast went on hiatus in late 2007, and was rebooted in August 2011 as a multifandom slash podcast.

Emma took a hiatus from the Harry Potter fandom in early 2008. She then became active in the Star Trek (2009) fandom (primarily writing Kirk/McCoy) in the summer of 2009. In 2010 she returned to the Harry Potter fandom and began actively writing fanfiction once more.

She was a member of the con comm for Lubricus, a Harry Potter slash convention held in Seattle, WA in June 2011, and is on the con comm again for Lubricus 2012.

She is one of the three creators of Three Patch Podcast.

Origin of Her Screen Name

Emma Grant: I guess it was about 2002, when I was in the Star Wars fandom. I’d been lurking in the fandom a bit but I wanted to join the Yahoo group because I knew I was going to start writing. I had to make up a new email address to get access to the Yahoo groups and I thought, well I don’t wanna use my real email address because it was going to be mainly porn.

At the time I’d also been really into Queer as Folk and there was this episode where they talked about how your porn name was the name of your pet and the name of the street you lived on. So I modified that a bit and I went with a name that I always liked which was Emma. At the time I lived on Grant Road so that was it: Emma Grant. I wanted it to sound like a pen name because a lot of people had things like Master Darkstar or ObiWan-something for their fandom names.

That turned out to be a great idea because as I’ve moved from fandom to fandom I’ve kept the same name. There’s an 01 on it because (this tells you how old I am) Emma Grant was already taken on AOL. Emmagrant01 was not taken and then that just sort of stuck. [2]
