Eid Fic, on livejournal, was "a place to post drabbles, ficlets, or full-length fanfiction about Islamic fictional characters. The fic does not need to deal with Eid or Islam. However, it does need to feature a Muslim character as a main lead."[1]

It was founded in 2007 by deepad in hopes of sparking conversation and fanworks relating to Muslim characters:

[G]iven fandom's current discussions about religion, race, gender, class, and other issues, it seemed appropriate to create a forum where this particular category of underrepresented characters could be talked about.[2]

The timing of the comm's launch was designed to coincide with Eid-ul-Fitr, though fanworks are welcome year-round. Shortly after the comm was created, deepa posted The "Who can we write about?" brainstorming post, a lengthy (though not comprehensive) list of Muslim characters in movies, TV shows, books, and other media.

It is mirrored and expanded on dreamwidth under the name Eid ka Chand, created in May 2009: "This community is a place to discuss the representation of Islam and Muslim characters in fictional works, be they in film, television, comics or novels. Links to relevant blog or media articles are welcome. // It is also a community where you can post or link to fan or original fiction about Islamic fictional characters. The fic does not need to deal with Eid or Islam. However, it does need to feature a Muslim character as a main lead."[3]

The livejournal community is moderated by dhobikikutti and shewhohashope; the dreamwidth mirror is moderated by them along with zuleika_dobson.
