Reactions and Reviews

An amusing little story of shipboard events after Kirk orders double beds for the senior officers (about time! Next they should put in bathrooms and seatbelts!). All that lovemaking with Spock in Jenna's continuing saga has convinced Kirk that odds are they'll fall out of those little bunks one day, and the thought of the resulting Sickbay report . . . (shudder!) Of course the requisition gets the shipboard gossip mill humming, and of course, none of the crew suspects who Kirk will be entertaining in that big double bed. Not even McCoy! I must say, I'm not convinced McCoy wouldn't suspect something is up after all this time, but Jenna's obviously saving the big revelation for another story. Some nice banter between K&S. some right-on Spock dialogue (My favorite: "But you are an uncontrolled human") and some missteps with Spock's dialogue )"l like you this way," and "I have been more worried about you') This Spock is a little too human for my taste, but he is consistent throughout the story and the author's series, and he does represent one ot the many possible interpretations of the character All in all. an enjoyable little episode, capably written, with a perfect ending. I love the last line.[1]

Double Trouble is a side-part from the Sharing the Sunlight universe by the same author. Now Kirk and Spock are lovers, they have problems with the size of the standard Starfleet bed: it is only .97 cm. Kirk decides to give his mate a gift: a double sized bed. To disguise his relationship he orders a big bed for all the seniors: Scotty, McCoy, Spock and himself. For Spock's sake, he wants to keep it quiet, wants their relationship to remain a secret for everybody, but those beds seem to lead a life of their own. Soon the whole ship is buzzing with rumours. How Kirk deals with these 'rumours' and the reaction of his officers on the gift of their generous captain is very funny. Jenna manages to maintain a romantic image all through out the story. A lovely, funny story, to be read, as I did, on a very rainy afternoon. It brings sun in your life! [2]

Oh, how funny! I smiled and chortled all the way through this accounting. Kirk puts in a perfectly innocent requisition for double beds for all the senior officers aboard. It’ll never be given a second thought, right? Sure. Inevitably, the Quartermaster has a million questions, and the crew a million speculations—all of them featuring their very sexy captain. There’s a delightful talent for humor at work here. Such a joy! I need to take a moment at this juncture in my reading marathon to say it is nothing short of remarkable how Jenna has created such diversity in her Sharing the Sunlight stories. As varied as they are, she has managed to weave them together into a perfectly coherent novel. The next entry is such an example.[3]
