dotcoms_refresh is a Bandom newsletter covering fan-generated content involving: All-American Rejects, The Academy Is..., Brand New, The Cab, Cobra Starship, The Dresden Dolls, Empires, Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, The Hush Sound, Metro Station, Mindless Self Indulgence, My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, The Sounds, Straylight Run, Taking Back Sunday, and The Used.
History
dotcoms_refresh was founded in April 2007 by callsigns and ficbyzee as a bandslash newsletter covering all content involving All-American Rejects, Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, The Academy Is..., The Hush Sound, The Sounds and associated bands. Initially, issues were posted every other day and the newsletter alternated between a fic and media issues. However, the media portion of the newsletter eventually spilt from dotcoms_refresh when annavtree created theydresstight in June 2007 to cover Bandom related media content including picspams and other canon news.[1] At the time, dotcoms_refresh already suffered from slight inactivity, but after the split, postings tapered off entirely.
In September 2007, murklins and wistfuljane approached the dotcoms_refresh maintainers with a plan for its revitalization. The newsletter was consequently given over to their management and in October 2007 dotcoms_refresh began posting new issues.[2][3] Under the new leadership, the newsletter became a daily publication produced by a large team of editors and employing a significant amount of automation. Editors collect links from their own friends pages and from the dotcoms_bot watcher journal's friends page. They post these links to a common Delicious account, delicious.com/dotcoms_refresh. A PHP script based on Delicious Glue and triggered each day by Delicious then harvests the links from that account and generates pre-formatted newsletter issues.
The community survived the Delicious relaunch of September 2011, but apparently died from lack of mods a year later.
Staff
Under callsigns and ficbyzee, the staff for dotcoms_refresh included annavtree, cyanei and shanalle; the latter of whom was in charged of the community's layout and looks while the former two, along with callsigns and ficbyzee, were regular editors.
The current roster of editors for dotcoms_refresh includes: buildyourwalls, chaneen, clippedwings, complicated_g, fairestcat, feelshiny, lemonsherry, likealocket, murklins, peridium, seimaisin, and wistfuljane. One final staff, stepps, acts as a sort of freelance links collector, but does not post newsletter issues. Previous editors include: monoblue, steffish and tigs.
