Dark of the Heart is a 21-page Professionals circuit story by KK.

It is on ProsLib.

Summary

"Macklin initiates D to a loving S&M relationship, and in order to fulfill D's fantasies they first have a trois with C, then a quatre with C's bottom, B. B has unrequited love for C and even though he is offered to join D and Macklin permanently in a nice relationship he refuses. Will C notice him?" [1]

Reactions and Reviews

On the other hand, I really like s/m slash stories. It's the factor of knowing the characters that makes all the difference to me. I think the reason "Dark of the Heart" had such a profound effect on me is that it's a double whammy -- it's a Pros story with good characterization, even if the pairings are nonstandard, _and_ it's a really remarkable depiction of bottom space.[2]

Good s&m is hard to find.... I ...loved the circuit story by kk -- "Dark of The Heart" but if I recall it was frustrating because the "tops' were Cowley (Bodie) and MacKlin (Doyle).[3]

[On the topic of realistic depictions of drinking in fan fiction and TV shows]: One of the reasons I love the circuit story "Dark of the Heart" (by kk, and I think it's available via the email library), aside from its excellent writing, subtle emotionality, and heavy s/m relationships (Doyle/Macklin, Bodie/Cowley, and a four-way!), is the little line from Cowley to Macklin (quoted from memory here):

"I'd offer you a drink, but I've a meeting with the Minister in half an hour and I want to keep a clear head."

I read that and went, *ping* -- yeah, how come other writers (including the ones of the show) never have that much sense? [4]

There's a circuit story called 'Dark Of The Heart' by kk which deals with this (amongst other things). I found it a powerful melancholy piece; the D/M pairing is only a part of the storybut the relationship portrayed between them is surprisingly affectionate. Well surprising until I was made to think about it; the skill of the author made it ring true in the context of the story (which is S/M).[5]

My favorite s/m Pros story is kk's "Dark of the Heart," though most people will say that one has the wrong couple(s). That's available on the e-circuit. And it's very hard to describe; I'd rather not try, because it'd sound silly and it's not a silly story.[6]
