Fandom

Avatar the Last Airbender

Basco has done various convention appearances, even cosplaying as Zuko on at least one occasion, and has interacted with fandom regularly over the years.[1]

He is a known Zuko/Katara shipper, which fans of the pairing see as validation for their ship even if it wasn't canon.

In 2017, Dante Basco and his team did an AtLA let's watch on his Twitch channel but it got flagged for copyright infringements. And in 2020, when Avatar became available on Netflix, he and his team organized another watch party series, covering the entire show, now raising money for charity. Production and other cast members often participated in the streams as well. [2]

Relationship with Homestuck

Rufio, Dante Basco's character in the movie Hook, was a running gag and minor character throughout the webcomic Homestuck, most famously in a series of pages in which creator Andrew Hussie and a dying Rufio kiss.

Hussie's tweets about Basco, 2012

On February 26, 2012, Basco began reading and occasionally liveblogging Homestuck on the recommendation of his followers. The popularity of the character and the actor caused much discussion in the Homestuck fandom about the event, with many jokes and some fanart created in tribute to it. The crack ship of Hussie x Basco gained traction.

Hussie himself responded to the news on Twitter, and even added a small greeting to Basco on the main page header of Homestuck.[citation needed] Basco in turn thanked Hussie and the Homestuck fandom for being so welcoming on his Twitter account. Dante Basco eventually reached the section of him and Hussie kissing on June 29, 2012, which he also posted about on his Tumblr blog.[3] The post received over 8000 notes within 2 weeks after being posted and was also reblogged by Hussie himself.[4]
