Commentfic is a type of fanfiction prevalent on journaling sites, such as LiveJournal or InsaneJournal. The term derives from the fact that the fanfiction is written and then posted in the comment field of a journal entry. On LiveJournal the comment field allows 4300 characters which means that the majority of commentfic is short.

There are a number of reasons for the creation of commentfic. These can range from one person writing a short fic to cheer another person up to challenges run for that purpose. An example of the latter would be Bring the Happy which is dedicated to creating happyfic. Another example would be The Multi Fandom Het Porn battle which is run in a personal LJ rather than a community.
