christians4HP was a Yahoo! Groups mailing list for the discussion of Harry Potter from a Christian perspective.

The group was founded on December 28, 2002, but the first message was not posted until June 2, 2003. There were less than 20 substantive messages posted to the group, and by late 2004 it was overrun by spam. As of January 2013, the group had 28 members.[1]

The group is in the Yahoo! Groups category "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and early discussion included excitement about the book's upcoming publication. Other topics of discussion included:

  • The surprising taboo surrounding the Harry Potter books within Christian communities and how to handle it. One list member was a junior high school teacher looking for advice on engaging with students who were forbidden from reading the series.
  • An article titled "The Demonic Nature Of Harry Potter",[2] which was strongly criticized by list members.
  • Christian allegory in the Harry Potter books.

Group Description

This group is designed for Christians who want to throw off their invisibility cloaks and share with the world their love for Christ and Harry Potter. Debate, share your theories about the old and upcoming Harry Potter books, meet new people, and share the insights and discoveries you have made while reading in the word.
