Writer of fanfiction and original fiction/non-fiction. She is also the founder of Circlet Press, the first press devoted primarily to erotic science fiction and fantasy. She began as a professional writer in her teens and published various works before creating fanfiction starting in 2006. According to Tan she "was a professional fiction writer for about ten years before I fell headfirst into Harry Potter fanfic. I started writing fic and I have never stopped, basically."
Tan is open about linking her fan and professional identities and also welcomes people writing fic in her own universes. "It’s all about love, why would I want to squash that?" She has also posted various works of fan art sent to her on her blog.
