Could we have art categories? I added Category:Star Trek DS9 to one of the many covers to see what it would look like and the wiki automatically generates a gallery. \o/ If we had subcategories like Star Trek TOS Art, Star Trek TOS KS Art, Star Trek TOS Zine Covers, Star Trek TNG Art, Star Trek TNG Zine Covers, etc. we could tag the thousands of images that have been uploaded. :) --Doro 16:33, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

... oh, that is awesome. Seconding this request! \o/ --Arduinna 16:55, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
To get a better idea of what we are dealing with I went ahead and tagged all the images on due South zine pages Category:Due South Zines, images on due South websites with Category:Due South Websites and due South images on pages without their own subcategory with Category:Due South. (Due South because it's big enough to have a lot images and small enough to still be manageable for testing purposes.) One thing I noticed is that there don't seem to be page breaks so we would probably need subcategories for fandoms with many images, otherwise adding the same fandom cat to thousand pictures would likely get us one gallery page with thousand images. Sounds like a good idea. How about a structure like this:
Star Trek TOS
Star Trek TOS Images (cross-categorized under Star Trek Images)
Star Trek TOS Zine Covers
Star Trek TOS Art
Star Trek TOS K/S Art
And then the main TOS Images category would contain everything that isn't a zine cover or fanart. Some images would be in both zine covers and art.--æthel 19:18, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

After editing many, many pages to get a better feel for it, I would suggest to change the proposed structure like this:

Star Trek TOS
Star Trek TOS Images (cross-categorized under Star Trek Images)
Star Trek TOS Zine Covers
Star Trek TOS Art
Star Trek TOS K/S Art
Star Trek TOS Zines
Star Trek TOS Non-Fiction Zines
Star Trek TOS Fiction Zines
Star Trek TOS Slash Zines (because we have two separate lists for TOS zines already and the second one is names "slash zines")

The zine covers and illustrations would get the same category as the respective zines and some images would be both in their zine category and in Star Trek TOS K/S Art or Star Trek TOS Art. --Doro 21:36, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Star Trek TOS Art, Star Trek TOS K/S Art, and Star Trek Art categories have been created.--æthel 20:10, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

fandom categories vs. canon genre

I reverted an edit that added Star Trek as a subcategory of Science Fiction Fandom. Although Star Trek canon is itself in the science fiction genre, the Star Trek category is about the fandom, which isn't sf fandom. Certainly Star Trek fans could be sf fans also, but if we start adding specific media fandoms for sf canons under Science Fiction Fandom, the category will get swamped. Have there been any recent conversations about reorganizing the fandom categories?--aethel (talk) 23:31, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Use of acronyms in subcategory titles

A lot of the subcategories for specific canons of Star Trek use acronyms, e.g. DS9 instead of Deep Space 9. In my view, this makes navigation confusing and oblique to anyone that isn't knowledgeable about Star Trek. I believe the categories should be mass renamed to spell out the acronyms and avoid confusion. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 20:27, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
