Real People vs. People:Industry

I started using [[Category:Industry]] for actors in RPF, because I looked at Category:People and that was the only subcategory that made even vague sense for them. But then I discovered this [[Category:Real People]]. Should this one be a subcat for People? Not that it makes sense as such, without context. Maybe the title could be something like Real People (as Characters) or Real People In Fanfic? ---- (whoops, that was me, May 1, with a typo sig --msilverstar 01:15, 15 May 2010 (UTC))

(not an admin!) The way I understand it, this is a subcategory of Fandoms by Source Text, so it's specifically meant to be used on RPF pages. "People" and "Industry" is for folks like George Lucas, JK Rowling, Lee G*l*b*rg, Stan Lee, etc. - people who are relevant to fandom but about whom a fandom hasn't arisen. If you use the full breadcrumb trail of categories on the page (e.g., [[Category: Fandoms by Source Text]] [[Category: Real People]] [[Category: Actors]], it's easier to tell that you're talking about an RPF actor. (If the actor is relevant in other ways than the RPF fandom around him/her, the categories [[Category: People]] and [[Category: Industry]] can also be added - they're not mutually exclusive.) --Arduinna 03:20, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
What Arduinna said. The category "Real People" should be applied to RPF fandom pages, just as the "Television" category should be applied to tv fandom pages. Because RPF fandom boundaries are different from FPF fandoms, individual people can sometimes be defined as RPF "fandoms", so there are people names mixed in with fandom names like LOTRIPS, etc.
But pages about individual persons should always get the People category, whether or not they're also a "character" in an RPF fandom.--æthel 21:29, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
So, we use both this category and Category:People for RPF people, and not Category:People:Industry. --msilverstar 01:15, 15 May 2010 (UTC)--msilverstar 01:15, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

breadcrumbs

The Real People category hierarchy is currently not following the no-breadcrumbs rule, and I would like to clean this up--unless there's a reason for giving Tokio Hotel both Real People and Music RPF? Otherwise, the only fandoms/people/pairings that should appear in the main Real People category are ones that don't fit neatly into Actor, Music, Historical, or Sports (like fake news and real news fandom).--æþel 17:32, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Unless we're treating Music RPF, et al. as fandom categories... Then everyone should be in Real People and have additional subcategories added on as needed!--æþel 18:18, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
