Series synopsis

Caprica is a prequel to Battlestar Galactica, however it is not the same science fiction space opera fans are used to. It's more of a character drama with the blend of science fiction elements that tie everything that preludes the destruction of humanity, and overall, is a very great start to a series that one doesn't have to understand the original series to get into.[1]

Set almost sixty years before the show creators' critically acclaimed reimagined Battlestar Galactica, Caprica covered the events leading up to the initial creation of the Cylons, which led, several decades later, to the first Cylon-human war.

Caprica explored the relationship between two families -- the wealthy Caprica-native Graystones and the Tauron-descended criminal-syndicate affiliate Adamas -- in a technological society somewhat more advanced than early 21st century Earth. The society was riddled with religious issues around polytheism vs. monotheism and the discrimination and neglect of less technologically advanced planets among the Twelve Colonies by the more technologically advanced ones.

The physical death of the teenage daughters of both families -- Zoe Graystone and Tamara Adama -- in an incident of religious terrorism at the beginning of the series spurred many of the events, including the development of the Cylons, later in the series.

The show passes the Bechdel Test, and in it, as in Battlestar Galactica by the same creators, the actions of the female characters are often less reactive and more plot-driving than those of many of the male characters.
