CS Forester (b. 27 August 1899, d. 2nd April 1966) was the author of the Horatio Hornblower series of Age of Sail novels, as well as stand-alone books such as The Gun and Death to the French. He is credited as the inspiration for authors such as Bernard Cornwell and Dudley Pope, who both mention characters from Forester's books in their own works.
