Blake's crew take a holiday that turns out to be anything but restful and ends in tragedy ... This story is well-plotted, but the individual elements of the plot all feel too familiar, have been seen in too many other stories. Interestingly, they are quite a bit better handled here *than* in the other stories, but their very familiarity gives it a slightly stale feeling, and the characters - both series and original - aren't as well handled as in her other stories I've read. Lots of quite graphic suffering being handed around to all (though as usual, Avon gets the most) and some off-screen (and only lightly sketched in) sex scenes, plus a violent and potentially interesting story thread involving Avon and Gan. Morrigan is a good writer, but she is correct in assigning this as not one of her most successful stories.
