Excerpt from the Essay

I am amused by the BNF wank from Supernatural that has leaked over into other fandoms, including SGA. It's a cyclical rant, and it makes the rounds every other year or so. SPN is a new fandom so it has apparently been christened now. Awwww. *pats it*

And I don't really care about the original rant or the answering rants. My instinctual response to every post from all sides is, "Yeah, you're right. And? Life's a bitch and then you die."

BUT! Then it spawned a whole lot of posts about what a BNF (Big Name Fan) is and what's expected of them and whether it's bad or good and blah, blah. And I thought, in my thinky way, you know... there really aren't any BNF's in SG-1, are there? I mean, unless you're over-the-top batshit insane and thus become famous in all quarters, there's no one who transcends all camps and is well known, is there? BNF-X could be FAMOUS in the J/D circles, but throw their name out in the S/J quarters and 90 percent of them will go, "Errr, who?" And vice versa.

And that's why I've called you all together today. Because *I* have decided to explain to you why it is that SG-1 is not conducive to BNF's. With illustrations. Yes, that's right. Lucky you.

Because my mind works in mysterious ways. No, don't try to understand the trappings of my mind. It is useless. My genius knows no bounds. Except for spelling and grammar, poor graphics skills and general laziness.

However, when I DO think of abstract ideas, my brain draws diagrams for me in my head, very similar to this. I do not know why or what this sort of thinking is called or what it means, because geniuses have no TIME for NONSENSE. But if someone knows, they could tell me.

So here we go...
