Animal Kingdom is a television series on TNT, based on the 2010 Australian film of the same name. The protagonist is Joshua "J" Cody, a 17-year-old orphan who goes to live with his grandmother and her crime family. The youngest of the adult sons, Deran, is openly gay, and most of the fanfic centers on his relationship with Adrian, his canonical boyfriend.
Canon
The series is about the powerful and successful criminal organization led by Janine Cody or known as Smurf, a matriarch of five children: Baz, Pope, Julia, Craig, and Deran. Like in the kingdom, the Codys boys, especially Craig and Deran who is the muscle of the family, they're each trying and struggling from the control-freak Mother to find their own place within the family.
