Andromeda Tonks (born Andromeda Black) is a character in Harry Potter.

Canon

Andromeda and her older sister, Bellatrix, looked very similar; in fact, Harry thinks Andromeda is Bellatrix when he first meets her. However, Andromeda's hair "was a light soft brown and her eyes were wider and kinder" when compared to Bellatrix.[1]

Andromeda was disowned by the Black family because she married a Muggle-born, Ted Tonks. Their daughter Tonks was a metamorphmagus and auror.

Both Andromeda’s husband and child were killed during the Second Wizarding War against Voldemort. Ted was killed by Snatchers while on the run from the Ministry of Magic under Voldemort’s control, and their daughter Tonks was killed by her aunt Bellatrix during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Fandom

Some frequent themes include:

  • Harry and Andromeda being family because she is caring for her grandson Teddy, who is Harry’s godson.
  • Andromeda’s relationship with her sister Narcissa after the Battle of Hogwarts. This may be continued estrangement or reconciliation, or Andromeda may assist Narcissa in navigating the Muggle world if that is part of Narcissa’s probation.
  • Sirius and Remus babysitting Dora and being family with Andromeda and Ted. Remus babysitting would be fannish divergence with the canon Remus/Tonks relationship.
  • Andromeda as a Healer (either formally or self-taught for the Order), though there is no canon evidence for this.
