While there was some slash in the fandom prior to the third film, none of slash pairings quite took off the way Alan/Billy did. The pairing quickly became popular, and has remained so since the film was released. Works are still being added to Archive of Our Own and FanFiction.net, even to the pairing's own LiveJournal community, alan_billy, which was created years after the film was released. Tumblr also has various fanworks being posted to it, including fanfiction and gifs.

- Third Time Under by Cori Lannam "This fic is sort of Billy's thoughts during the missing scenes between him being attacked by the Pteradons and when we see him next. His thoughts on his actions, Alan's anger, and just everything. It's a nice little fic. Captures that sense of hurting, slipping in and out of consciousness, and his mind just roaming over events. You get that Billy is probably in shock, scared out of his head, and trying to think of anything, but the physical pain. Dwelling on the emotional hurts, because he can't think of anything, but pain at the moment. It's a great fic. One of those that just makes you go "Wow!" One of the first ones that I really loved in this fandom. It's still one of my favorites."[1]
- Patience by Biblio "Heh! Biblio branchs out into a new fandom and you just know I had to rec her fic. This is actually supposed to be the first fic in a series, but it's the only one to show up so far. I can wait, I swear I can. <taps foot impatiently> Actually, I think I may have to poke Biblio and remind her that Alan and Billy are out there, still waiting to come. They have got to be incredibly frustrated by now. I bet those two muses of her are sitting around tapping their feet wondering if she's ever going to finish this puppy. Maybe if a bunch of you go read her fic and then tell her how much you loved it she'll write that much waited for sequel. So go, read the fic, help me out here with the poking and such. Give Biblio a nudge and remind her how lovely Alan and Billy are. That she should really finish getting these boys together. What are you waiting for? Go! Shoo! "[2]
