Author's Introduction

ADJUSTMENTS FOR A NEW YEAR began appropiately on New Year's Eve at about 7:00 P.M. in the evening and was finally finished in its first draft form on Valentine's Day. This is my second attempt at a novel, and my second fanzine publication. The first being MACKY'S SIGN OF THE LION, the comic book/graphic novel Beauty and the Beast zine which has now gone bi-monthly.

On December 16, 1988. I fell totally in love with the show, GOD BLESS THE CHILD, and couldn't get the characters and story ont of my mind. Maybe I saw more than was really there in the story, but I felt there was/is an attraction to Lena by Vincent. She certainly left no doubts as to what her interest was in him from the first minute she saw him. The story you are about to read is a "What If." type story based the premise that he was really attracted to her ("There was a poll beyond the thought when I felt what it might be like to be someone's possibility.") and what would happen if Catherine betrayed his trust and love, so much so that he turned to Lena in a moment of weakness.

This novel might even be called an alternative universe within Beanty and the Beast. For the time line stops with GOD BLESS THE CHILD, and does not included any information, characters, situations or changes in the V/C relationship that have occurred after this show of this season. So basically the novel has elements from the first season shows, and the first five of this season, but also elements from January 1989 on. So in this world Charles Chandler remains alive. Vincent has not admitted feelings of jealousy, or admitted to Catherine that he can envision a "someday" for them, nor has there been any physical contact between except hugging.

I will warn you there is physical, and sexual contact between the characters. Hopefully, I have done it tastefully. I have put the characters into real life situations within the confines of the series, and hopefully everything fits together. Please let me know what you think of this novel, because it is not your typical Vincent/Catherine romance, nor was it intended to be. But I hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you think.
