Why this must be read: I'm not a big Sheppard/Teyla fan. The more a show pushes something, the warier I am of it and thus, writers have that much more trouble convincing me of it. Pru did it in one fic. If the writers of Atlantis approached it like she does...I'd be much more amenable about it. I like this John. I buy this John's attraction. I love the way Teyla responds to him and I like her for it. It's a fantastically written story with great pacing and the best use of a dance that I've seen in a very long time.

And the thing is, I didn't find it shippy at all, so in a way, I'd call it more gen (albeit "Het!John Sheppard") rather than Sheppard/Teyla.

Also, I loved the moments with Rodney.

What I love about this story is its rich use of language, how the words reflect the music that it centers around, as John teaches Teyla about the Tango. It is sultry and fluid, and paints an earthy portrait of their friendship and John's life back on earth.

Abrazo is a great fic, even though it made me fall into a well of listening to Gotan Project for a week. It’s kind of slice of life in the Atlantis base in the Pegasus Galaxy and it’s a side of Sheppard that I hadn’t seen in other fic before reading this one. Some of the fic was jossed by canon but it’s not enough so that it detracts from the actual fic, it’s just kind of extra-canon instead of being within canon. The other thing about this fic is, like with so much of rageprufrock’s work, it’s a gen fic but it’s so sensual as to almost be erotic, especially with Gotan Project playing in the background.
