Reactions and Reviews: Issue 1

Collection of short stories including, 'A Little Piece of Limbo' in which Catherine takes Vincent to Connecticut and they make love, but Vincent feels guilty because of an accident which occurs in the tunnels while he is gone. In 'A Measure of Love,' Catherine is brutalized and raped by a criminal, and Vincent rescues her. Both must deal with their reactions to the traumatic events. In 'Sometimes, Silence is Silver,' Vincent sexually assaults Catherine in the caverns during the events at the end of the second season, and Catherine asks Father to withhold that information from Vincent, who doesn't recall the episode.[1]

This anthology contains 6 stories. There's a cute story where Catherine kidnaps Vincent and together they find love in the mountain sunshine. In another, Catherine is kidnapped after she witnesses a murder but before Vincent can reach her, she is raped. Also included is an alternative to "'TLBL' This story tells of the aftermath as Catherine struggles to help Vincent when he realizes that, while lost in his dark side, he attacked Catherine in the cave.[2]

I read the zine A Touch of Kindred Souls and have a couple of questions that might be up for discussion. In one story Catherine is out for a morning job and she is abducted by a brutal, psycho rapist. Vincent is aware that Catherine is in trouble, but because it is daylight and NOT SAFE FOR HIM, he stomps, snaps, and snarls his way through the tunnels waiting for night to come so he can go to get Catherine. During the course of the day Vincent can feel Catherine being beaten and raped, but still does nothing. This is not the Vincent I have come to know. Do any of you think Vincent would wait so many hours, not knowing if Catherine would be alive when he rescued her? Would Vincent find the closest exit from the tunnels to where Catherine was being held? Would Vincent risk his life to get to Catherine at any time of the day, or place?

In the same zine Catherine is again brutally raped. This time it is by Vincent. This happens when Catherine went after Vincent when he was ill and she followed him into the cave. This is something I feel could never happen. I feel the bond between VincentandCatherinecould never truly be severed. I do not think Vincent could hurt Catherine in any way, let alone put her in bed for about 3 weeks, then she needs crutches to walk with, and her body is scarred where he ripped her flesh with his nails. Does anyone else think the way I do, that Catherine is the only person Vincent could never hurt? (Randie—Absolutely! I feel exactly rhe same way. That fact urns shown to us again and again in the series, and I admit that I don't feel comfortable with zine stories that violate that premise. —Barbara)

There are some people who write zines who just do not understand the people they write about. They can interpret things the way they want to see them, it is their right, but ] think these stories are just too far off. [3]

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 2

Most of the stories in this second volume of the series focus on Vincent and Catherine as their relationship moves to a physical plane. Readers should note that in 'Tell the Dragon Bide,' we learn that Vincent did attack and rape Catherine in the cave. Other story lines include Devin and a new Tunnel- dweller learning lessons in responsibility; Father and Mary finally expressing their love for each other; and a recounting of the days following Lisa's departure from the Tunnels and its effect on Vincent.[5]
