Reactions and Reviews

A sweet, quiet scene, on the 20th anniversary of their first meeting, Kirk and Spock in their apartment by the fireplace, talking of memories. Spock is talking first, and all the things he remembers are expressed so vividly, the author's strong feelings coming through so beautifully, she makes us feel how moved Spock was, learning that Kirk loved him. Twenty years ago, walking on a beach, Kirk put his arm around Spock's shoulders...oh how can such a simple thing move me so much? I love that Kirk used to leave little special things on Spock's desk; and Spock loved that Kirk would come into his cabin in his absence. And I love Spock's memory of the first time Kirk kissed him, real quickly, and walked away.

Then Kirk's memories—gorgeous and vivid words, made me teary. Kirk in a coma; a mind-meld. Kirk was drifting away, until Spock told not just of his love, but of his need, that he would die without his t'hy'a; this brought Kirk back.

A lovely story, beautiful feelings. But there is something interestingly off about the dialogue. It seems not quite how people speak, but more like how they would write what they have to say to each other. [1]
