A Candle for Katherine is an X-Files story by marasmus.

Summary

All the time we talked, no matter what we were speaking about, his name would slip in -- Mulder -- usually accompanied by a little smile and the beginning of an account of some wild tale, then she'd stop herself. "You don't have to stop saying his name to me," I said.

She gave me a look that suggested I had gone too far. I didn't give a toss. "If you want to talk about him, do. I ain't going to say anything to anyone and I ain't going to ask you questions if it makes you uncomfortable."

When "Katherine" appears in his London cafe, an unlikely protector is born.[1]

Reactions and Reviews

2006

It's probably obvious by now that I love original characters, particularly when they have unique voices and points of view. My favorite character of that description: Joe Lipinski, late of Her Majesty's Royal Navy, not to mention Her Majesty's local gaol. This is the story of Joe's encounter with a mysterious redhead, who captures his imagination (not that he'd ever admit it out loud) and maybe, breaks his heart (and he'd sure as hell never admit that).[2]

2017

Today’s author is relatively new to us, and possibly to the majority of you as well, but boy are we thrilled that we stumbled across their work. Marasmus has that keen ability that one needs to really draw the reader into the world they’ve created with their words.

The rec utilizes one of our favorite (and completely underused) ways of telling the story: 3rd party POV. It offers such a fantastic perspective, giving us a different type of insight into their world and what surrounds them.

Let Marasmus pull you into their world inside of a quaint little cafe off the streets of London, and tell you the story of how their original character met the fascinating and mysterious Katherine.[3]
