A Beach to Walk On is a 56-page Star Trek: TOS novel by Dolly Weissberg.

It was illustrated by Gennie Summers (mainly illos of space and planets, which doesn't really have anything to do with the story which is mainly about Janice decorating the house and cooking). There is also a single illo Ann Marie Crouch

The novel is about the romantic relationship between Janice Rand and Jim Kirk, and is mainly a personal domestic fantasy. There's also some amnesia, which one may feel could come in quite handy while reading this zine.

Some Excerpts

There was a liquor cabinet and a china cabinet, which displayed her rose medallion china.

There was of course, lighting like the ship had in all the rooms. Daylight, night light, and work settings for all the desired lighting one could want. That made it easier on your eyes and very pleasant. The pantry was in between the kitchen and transporter room, where the supplies could be beamed down and then moved easily to the storage area. When you needed food in the kitchen it could be easily gotten from next door to the kitchen. It had storage areas for canned goods and frozen foods, which could virtually supply the house for months at a time. It made shopping quite easy, as they were the only people on their entire planet. The laundry center was a large room, where like the ship, you could automatically wash dry and press all the clothes. It took very little time to do it. Push a few buttons and things were done.

It was also near the kitchen. When she did the housework it was all in one location and you didn't nave to run your legs off.

She had three or four guest rooms, all with baths which were quite nice. They all had lovely paintings on the wall and video screens. They were set up for the utmost in comfort for any family or friends that came to visit.

She had started rooms for the children that she had hoped would come in handy in the future. She had doll houses for the girls. They were already started with little furniture and everything. A doll collection and little stuffed animals for them. She had electric trains for the boys and military space toys which Jim had bought, too. Little starships and space stations. The ships even flew. The roams were set up with bedrooms, baths and play rooms adjoining. There they would play with their toys in a large well lit room and could spread them all over the floor and not bother anything. The girls rooms had canopy beds and frilly canopies and they were covered with feminine things. They had dolls, silk flowers, and delicate things little girls would like. The girls rooms had canopy beds and frilly canopies and they were covered with feminine things. They had dolls, silk flowers, and delicate things little girls would like. The boys had their own rooms more boyish with the Enterprise and space more the motif. Jim liked that and would bring new space models for the collection.

Secretly they enjoyed playing with them at times, too. Flying the little space ships around by remote control. And running the trains around.

But Janice had a feeling they were still alive. Never would Jim have lost to the Klingons. Not ever in all his years, had he been defeated totally by the Klingons.

Not even when he had been captured and been tortured by the mind sifter. He had even recovered from that. This was just like all the rest. The only thing was, if he had been captured, he needed help. Spock and Kirk, on the other hand were in mortal trouble. They were carried unconscious to the Klingon's ship and put in their brig. Kirk woke to find himself in a strange place and Spock looking around trying to find a way out. Kor came in and said he was finally going to get them and fix them so they never would escape. He sent some other Klingons in and they beat up Kirk and Spock, After a while they used the mind sifter on them, to find out any secrets they could. They used it on Kirk till he couldn't even remember who he was. They kept asking and asking, making him pay for who he was until...he finally couldn't answer what his awn name was. They tried to treat Spock the same way, but he faked amnesia, so he still knew who he was. But it was traumatic and he was severely stunned. He only wanted to be alone to try to settle, to sort out his own mind. Spock was separated from Kirk, to keep Kirk vulnerable. He tried to remember who lie was.

He would sit there and couldn't remember anything. The Klingons only laughed. They finally took him to a lousy little planet and let him off.

Jim looked so good, black bikini swim trunks, his chest bare and so well toned. His hair ruffled from the breeze.

Janice had on a green flowered bikini and she looked marvelous In it. They spread the blanket down. She turned on some music and they sat down on the blanket. She didn't feel like swimming and wanted to get some tan. He wanted to swim so he went swimming. He looked so happy swimming in the surf and playing in the waves. All his strength being pitted against the strength of the sea. After a while, he came back tired. He plumped down on the blanket and wrapped himself in a towel. And told Janice it was great. She got the picnic out for him. They had cola to drink. Also they had hard boiled eggs, fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, and butter biscuits. They had hamburgers too, and fries and other kinds of sandwiches: egg salad, tuna fish salad, and pimento cheese. They had much more than could be eaten. They had fresh fruit: apples, grapes and peaches, as well as some cake and cookies. They ate some and then laid there, falling asleep in the sun on their private little beach. Janice got up later and walked along the shore, gathering a few shells. She then returned to go through them on the blanket. He woke up later and wanted to take another swim. She had enjoyed watching him while he slept. He looked so innocent, she couldn't get over it. They ate some more after his swim. And then took a walk down the beach together. They held hands and enjoyed each other's company.

As it began to grow dark, they gathered their things up and walked back to the house.
